Pirogoeth stood overlooking her kingdom. The coastal city of Kuith shone like a diamond in her eyes. Tonight there would be a festival to celebrate her coronation. To the casual observer she seemed calm and ready, but on the inside she was nervous. She could sense something watching her from distance. The thought sent a shiver down her spine.

As she turned around to go back into her room, the alert bells began ringing. The Queen ran back to her balcony. From there she could see the banners of the Southern Kingdom of Reaht flying, hundreds of soldiers making their march towards her city. Panic gripped her but she would not allow it to overcome her. She had to ready her fortifications for the coming assault.

Every time that I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past is gone
It went by like dusk to dawn
Isn't that the way
Everybody's got their dues in life to pay

The fight between Kuith and Reaht stretched on for days without rest, and Pirogoeth, the new queen, fought bravely beside her men. There were countless casualties on both sides, yet neither showed any signs of retreat. As the battle stretched into the fifth day, numerous ships could be seen sailing into the bay. Their sails were as green as poison and the ships were as black spots against the red horizon.

Death came in great strides even before the dark ships even made it to shore. The countless dead of both sides began to arise once more, attacking friend and foe alike. The opposing kingdoms of Kuith and Reaht decided to take up arms together to combat this new foe. Pirogoeth could not help but weep for her fallen comrades as she blasted them to dust with her magic. She felt the same presence she had felt only days ago. It was watching her, mocking her futile attempts to destroy its minions.

I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know how to win

The fight only lasted a day. How could one kill something that had already died? Somehow, Pirogoeth alone had survived the slaughter, only to be captured as a slave. She watched as her city was plundered; all things of value were quickly taken away, anything else was destroyed. Her city lay now in ruin, the diamond of her eye had been stolen from her.

The strange men, if they could be called that, took her aboard one of their ships and threw her into a cell. With a sneer, her captor locked the door and left. She fell to her knees. She had been beaten and bruised, and now she was alone in the world. She thought of how her soldiers had fought bravely to defend their kingdom, she thought of how they all died in vain. Tears fell into her lap, she had not realized she was crying.

Half my life's in books' written pages
Live and learn from fools and from sages
You know its true
All the things come back to you

"Stop your crying wench!" said a gruff voice. "Those tears won't bring any of 'em back again, nothing will. And we're as good as dead in these cells too."

Pirogoeth looked up in shock, perhaps she wasn't completely alone. "Who's there?" She asked trying to sound brave. Her trembling voice betrayed her though.

The man laughed as he stepped from the shadows. He stood nearly six feet tall, a shock of red hair covered his head. Pirogoeth gasped as she saw the seal on his battered leather armor. He was a Reahthan captain, Largo LeStrange.

Sing with me sing for the years
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tears
Sing with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

"Surprised?" He asked noting the look of shock on the young woman's face. "Well ye shouldn' be. These bastards wouldn'a just left someone like me to die."

"Stay away from me," Pirogoeth warned as the Reahthan Captain stepped forward. "Or I'll..."

"You'll what? Nag me to death?" He laughed, "Believe me wench, these bastards could care less what I do to ye." He placed his hand on her cheek, turning her face to meet his gaze. She spat in his eye.

Largo let out a laugh, "Ya got spunk, I'll give ya that much." He said. "We're breaking out of this cell, but I need yer help."

"Why?" Pirogoeth asked shocked.

"I have no intention of bein' a slave to anyone," He replied, "and I especially don't want to be out on those cold waters when we do escape."

Sing with me sing for my year
Sing for my laughter and sing for my tear
Sing with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

Pirogoeth looked on as the dark ships sank into the icy waters, their sickly green sails barely protruding from the surface. So much had happened over the last week. She had lost her friends, family, and now her home. She watched in silence until the last of the embers finally burnt out. Kuith was nothing more than a memory that would haunt her for years to come.

"Are ye comin' or am I leavin' ya here?" Largo shouted as he began walking back south.

Pirogoeth looked back at her once beautiful city. Her eyes blurred with tears as she turned away from it for the last time. She knew she could never go back to the way things were. Slowly she trudged to where Largo was waiting.

Dream on dream on dream on
Dream yourself a dream come true
Dream on dream on dream on
Dream until your dream comes true
Dream on dream on dream on dream on
Dream on dream on dream on yeah

The two travelers walked in silence, they had witnessed their best friends die at the hands of the others army. Somehow Largo seemed to be the winner, he still had a home to go to. As they turned the corner Reaht came into sight. The once tall buildings were no level with the ground. Largo stopped walking, falling to his knees. His home was gone too. Right there he took a vow to seek out the one responsible for the destruction of Reaht and Kuith, and make him suffer for his crimes.

Pirogoeth watched as the sickly green banners were raised in the once prosperous city of Reaht. She shuddered as she felt the presence once again watching her once more, taunting her to find it. One day, she knew she would find it. Until that day, she would choose to travel with Largo. She looked at her former enemy, now they shared a common foe. Together they would search the entire world, and nothing would stop them from finding him.

Sing with me sing for my year
Sing for my laughter and sing for my tear
Sing with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

A tall man stood looking into his scrying mirror. His long silver hair was wrapped in a ribbon as dark as the starless sky. Around him, he wore a cloak of the same color. He laughed slightly as he watched as Queen Pirogoeth and Captain Largo walked away from the newly occupied Reaht.
